Trauma Counselling
Healing trauma is absolutely fundamental to resolving anxiety and panic and resolving any area of your life that feels stuck.
Trauma leaves a mark on all aspects of your being and the impact of trauma is like trying to drive your car with the park brake on. You can do it, but eventually some serious damage is going to occur and something will break.
Trauma can come in many forms and if it’s experienced early in life it can often be forgotten or buried in the subconscious mind and then you don’t even know it’s impacting you.
Sadly, trauma tends to snowball if left unresolved and it ends up impacting your physical health, relationships and performance at work.
While working with all kinds of trauma, Jocelyn has a particular interest in helping women deal with childhood trauma, bad sexual experiences, infertility, pregnancy and birth trauma.
Is talking about trauma a good idea?
When you’ve experienced a traumatic experience, telling your story for the first time to a trusted family member, friend or professional can be a cathartic release that helps to honour you and your experience, as well as start to accept the reality of what has happened to you.
However, if you tell your story again and again, it is like you have to experience the trauma over and over again. This can lead to a number of problems.
- Each time you tell the story it often adds another layer of protection, as your system tries to survive the trauma – again.
- It can also be disempowering because when you continue to tell yourself that you were a victim of a traumatic experience, it keeps you stuck in that story feeling scared and powerless.
- Neural pathways are developed through repetition, so the more you tell yourself the traumatic story the more it gets hardwired into your system. And due to the intensity of the emotions, it will actually hardwire more quickly.
- You’ll then start to believe that the traumatic experience defines you and that you’re unsafe in the world.
- Your system then becomes hyper-vigilant looking for any possible threat and you limit or contract your activities to stay safe.
- Repeatedly telling the story of a traumatic experience literally re-releases all of the neuropeptides in your brain and chemicals in your body that you experienced during the actual experience.
Your nervous system can be overloaded, your mood states can be drastically impacted, and your resilience and ability to bounce back will be compromised.
Now you can see why talking about trauma is generally not the best option.
How to resolve trauma?
Our subconscious mind stores tens of thousands of bits of data every second and everything that happened to you in a traumatic experience is stored by your subconscious mind. Why is this important?
When you are in survival mode to cope with a traumatic experience, the prefrontal cortex, or conscious part of the mind, is literally shut off and the subconscious mind is totally in control.
To truly resolve trauma, you need to address it at a subconscious level and talking about it won’t do it.
The reason that traumatic experiences remain challenging for us is due to having unprocessed subconscious memories that still have strong negative emotions associated with the trauma.
Your subconscious mind will no longer be driven by a traumatic experience once you safely process the emotions, and find the hidden wisdom and learning from the experience.
The benefits of trauma counselling with Jocelyn
Jocelyn uses a unique integrated approach to help your whole system recover from trauma – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Using transformational coaching tools, Rapid Transformational Therapy, the LifeLine Technique and Nutripuncture allows healing to occur at a subconscious and cellular level.
These techniques are content-free, meaning you don’t need to talk about your traumatic experience. Muscle reflex testing and specifically designed visualisation scripts allow us to dialogue directly with your subconscious mind.
Once your subconscious memories and emotions have been safely processed, you’ll be able to fully integrate the traumatic experience and it will no longer have an impact on your life.
After working with Jocelyn, you’ll be able to acknowledge the traumatic experience happened to you without it upsetting you, limiting your self-belief, impacting your physical health, or restricting the choices you make in the future.
Working together, you’ll be able to grow and expand through trauma rather than having it diminish and restrict you.
